Hip Hip Yeah! Finished the green and orange four patches (all 120 of them) before lunch! These patches had to be exactly 3.5" square. Bonnie Hunter made a special point of mentioning this in the directions. Some of the orange squares are rather "strange" in nature but I used what I had. This is one quilt I do not want to purchase fabric for the top.
Did you notice the little clippy that I use to count the squares... Not wanting to make anymore than is required. Ha!

Celtic Solstice Clue Number Three
Clue number three consists of pin wheels made from half square triangles. I was impressed with the Easy Angle Ruler. I've had the ruler for quite a while ( bought it on sale ) but stuck it with the rest of the rulers and didn't take time to try the ruler. So I made 25 pin wheels yellow and orange and 100 extra yellow and orange half square triangles = 200 yellow and orange half square triangles. Whew! Ready to start clue number four!
Clue Number Two of the Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt
Yeah for me! The second clue is complete. The green with yellow and white chevrons were inpired by Bonnie's visit to the tile floors in Christ Church in Dublin Ireland.
As I made these blocks I thought that these blocks would make a great border for a quilt. Need to remember this when onto my next quilt or maybe one that's in the closet waiting for more attention.

Christmas Treats
Decided to take a break from the Mystery Quilt today and bake some goodies for Christmas. The fruit cake cookies are from the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Gartner. Love em! Been making them for several years. The tarts are filled with mincemeat and the fruit cake is Dick's favorite. Just thought, hmmm, everything has either brandy or sherry! CHEERS!
Mystery Quilt 2013 Celtic Solstice
Well here we go! I've never done a Mystery Quilt, always waited until all the clues are posted and then said "I'll make that quilt" or "that's not for me." This Bonnie Hunter, Quiltville, quilt is made using scraps for she is the Scrap Queen. This would be a good use of all those pieces in the bins in my quilt room. This is the beginning clue, the blue and white (92) and orange and blue (96) triangles using the Tri Rec ruler are finished. Now on to clue number two. Clue Number 2 will be white, green and yellow chevrons. (100) Glory what have I done!

Charity Quilt for Crittenton
The children who are in residence at Crittenton need extra love and hugs. This Whirly Gig quilt use the Kay Woods ruler that has been sitting in my closet for many years. The blades are stripped and then cut with the ruler. Turning the ruler 100% inables you to cut the solid background to the blades. The fabric are Kaufman and have a variety of animals. Would love to see the child who will receive this quilt.

To Those Who Serve
The Patriotic quilt is now in the hands of a Veteran! I am so thankful I was able to make this quilt for someone who served our country. As i make Veteran's Quilts I always think about my dad, my stepdad, my uncles, my husband and my brother in law who all spent serving our country. They all served during a time when our country was at war, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. God Bless all that serve then and those that are serving now!

Veteran's Quilt
So pleased to be able to quilt again. My hand is almost back to normal and all bandages removed! Yahoo. So today I returned to my Veteran's Quilt which is due the November meeting. Have four more blocks to make and then sashing, borders and machine quilting. Whew best get busy. I'm using a pattern I found in a 2006 magazine. Loved the pattern and decided this was the quilt I wanted to make for a veteran who deserved my thanks for his/her service.

I've thought that this half square triangle block would be great using the 5" squares my quilting group has been cutting. The completed block measures 16" so it would be a quilt in no time! Each quarter block uses 2 five inch focus fabrics and 2 five inch neutral fabrics. Make the half squares and follow the pattern. Four completes one block.
This could be a quick quilt to assemble using a 3 blocks by four block set up.

Enjoyed making these quilts. The first is made from all Asian fabrics, a Brown Bag quilt pattern. The last quilt has loads of half square triangles a Bonnie Hunter "leader ender" project Quiltville.com. Love the design. I was able to do free motion feathers in the cream colored area.

Quilted Border
Really love the beige thread on the black border. Was so easy to see when quilting. I will use a contrasting thread on borders or even quilts again. This free motion pattern has become one of my favorites for a border, maybe because it's easy and always looks good. This quilt was made with all Asian Fabrics and easily done.

Celebrate America
Patriotic Table Topper
Celebrating America with a new patriotic table topper! Searched in the quilt cupboard and found all the fabrics to make this topper. Red is not exactly the correct shade but I didn't have to buy anything!
Tried a new techinique for the binding. Completely done by machine, no hand stitching. This has a "piping" style which highlights the inital border. Found the directions and placed it on my Pinterest page on the Quilting Tutorial board. I'll do the again, but maybe not on a large quilt.
