Gifts Made With Hexagons

I am obsessed with Hexagons!  Hexagons are all hand sewn. It is so much fun, love doing these.  Both of these projects are made with quarter inch hexagons.   First attempt using this size, seems so small.

Began making these items for Christmas Gifts.  The most difficult part of the coin purse was adding the hardware.  Goodness so fussy!  But done and happy with the project.

Had to do one project for me!  These are quarter inch Hexagons too!  Could be a mug rug but right now it's a small Christmas decoration hanging on the wall.   I used fusible hexie shapes on this project.  Not happy with them and won't use them again.  I prefer the paper hexes.

Been fun projects for November.  Now back to the Lucy Boston and Grandmother's Flower Garden.

Merry Christmas!🎄

Lucy Boston - Patchwork of Crosses Block # 3

Finished block # 3 of my Lucy Boston Patchwork of Crosses Quilt.  This one has green with an accent of red and gold.

Really love the fussy cut center!
I'm choosing the fabrics for block # 4, purple and lavender.  Love the jewel tones of those colors.
Working with these "honeycombs", elongated diamonds, are more difficult than the hexagon shape.

Quilts and Matching Bags

When I make a quilt, I always have left over fabric.  So how about a matching bag.  What new mom does not need a bag or tote?

My church quilt group donates quilts to Casa Teresa,  A Loving Home for Pregnant Women in Crisis .    The "ducky quilt and bag" is my favorite.  I hope the young mom will enjoy the quilt and the matching bag.

Lucy Boston

Block number two finished! Love using striped fabric.  I really think that I love the "fussy cutting" portion of this block best.  Beginning block # 3, thinking some green!

Halloween Topper

My first completed English Paper Piecing project.  This topper will reside on the bookcase in my sewing room.   Halloween theme would be great and I'm way ahead of time.

It was so much fun selecting fabrics and making the hexagons!  Can't wait to begin my next project.

Paper Bag Quilt

This scrappy charity quilt uses 4" X 2.5" pieces.  The pattern used was "Paper Bag Method". Place all the pieces in a paper bag, reach in an pick two pieces.  Sew those two together.  You may only switch if the two pieces are identical.

Only problem was that the pieces I placed in the bag should have been 4.5" not 4.0".  So this is the pattern I decided to use on this quilt.

The long white strip used to connect the blocks needed extra quilting.  This is "Swirls in Chaos", probably never seen in a quilting book or on a blog.  I had a great time swirling and free motion  quilting.

The gold back and striped binding make this quilt cheerful.  Hoping the person who receives this quilt will be wrapped in love and prayers.

Lucy Boston English Paper Piecing

I received an English Paper Piecing Kit from my daughter Linda for Christmas.  The hexies are a joy to make and I made several bag projects.

When I saw Lucy Boston Crosses on Pinterest I fell in love.  The first block for my lap quilt is complete.  I am using 1" elongated hexies for the pieces, sometimes called "honeycombs".

I am so pleased with how the block appears!  English Paper Piecing, EPP, is a slow process!  My plans are to have 9 squares using different colors.  This will give an antique appearance. The white is the border for the quilt blocks and four 1" small squares will be added at the sides and squares in each of the corners.

EPP is addictive! I've already have several projects in mind after this Lucy Boston Cross Quilt.
